Welcome to 2018

Get flown out with a friend to meet me!! ✈️

Foxes! It’s freakin’ 2018! What the duck! 🦆 I hope you all had a wonderful evening ringing in the new year with your loved ones! Ryan and I (and the dogs, and bunnies) just hung out at home, Snapfam probably saw us head to the grocery store and load up on all of our vices, as it was our LAST cheat day before getting on track with our healthy lifestyle. Let me just say, that if you don’t like the blunt truth…this is not the blog post for you and you should leave, and just wonder what could’ve been. 😜

A few of you have tweeted me asking me what my resolutions are for 2018. Well, the answer is easy. I don’t have any. You may be scratching your head right now trying to figure out why or what I mean. In the past I have set “new years resolutions” however each year ended the same way: I got so busy with life that I inadvertently ditched my resolutions. I believe that setting small goals throughout the year, that lead up to bigger goals is important. I believe that setting ONE giant resolution is way too much pressure, and it’s very easy to lose focus and get discouraged. Don’t do that to yourself, you deserve better!! Set small goals for January, and set some 3 month goals etc, and appreciate and celebrate your small (or large) accomplishments along the way, you earned it!! I think it is very important to experience all types of successes, and setting many smaller and larger goals throughout the year, helps you do that. With those feelings of excitement and success, it fuels your ambition and nurtures your soal.

So what ARE my goals?

If I’m honest, I do shoot very high and sometimes (most of the time) my expectations of myself are too high. Which leads me into one of my first goals.

  • I will be working on being more realistic with my schedule, and budgeting my time better.
  • I aim to reach more people, to inspire more people
We will have another wonderful year of success with Arctic Fox Hair Color
  • I intend to read more, get lost in literature that I love
  • I will purchase an investment property with Ryan
  • I intend to launch Starling Hair with Ryan, crush it and give everyone top notch products that WORK
  • I will reach new heights with my fitness and health goals
  • I will take the time to care for my body and mind
  • I will take and enjoy more vacation time
  • I will actively blog all year long
  • I intend to visit Japan
  • I will make more time for friends, if not now, then when? I’m always “busy”
  • I intend to force Ryan to take me on more dates that are actual dates, and not work dates
  • I will be less lazy with my outfits, try and take more OOTDS and not just hang out in sweats all the time!

Health & Fitness

IT’S SO HARD, RIGHT?! Some no b.s. tips!

One of the hardest things for me, each year, is fitness and diet. I LOVE food. When I know I’ll be going to a favorite restaurant for dinner, I am happy ALL day long, no matter what. So curbing that appetite is hard for me, it really never got easier for me, if I’m honest. What gets “easier” about it, is my dedication level. My ability to tell myself ‘NO. You can’t have that betch. You worked out too hard this morning. Don’t forget your goal!’. I am very stubborn, go figure! Another way I find health & fitness easier, is when Ryan is on the straight and narrow with me, this helps loads! Another HUGE factor, is buying myself some fun new workout gear. This could be some new leggings, a new gym bag, water bottle, supplements or even a new jump rope! ALSO, I find that following people who are at the level I’d like to be at, is super helpful. It’s a great reminder when scrolling through Instagram. I will also save those images I find inspirational, and pin them to my closet wall. Below is a collection of inspirational items for 2018 that I think might help you reach your goals!

Afraid to Work Out in a Gym? Afraid You Don’t Know How To Use The Equipment?

I hear this a lot, it makes me sad to see you letting other people rule your future, and control your goals. STAHP IT. You’re way cooler than that, I know you are! Trust me, you are. Maybe one small goal this year is to stop letting people’s opinions dictate your life and what you choose to do. Life is much, much too short to NOT do something because you are worried someone is going to think negatively of you. Let me tell you something, you may not like it, but guess what? I bet about 20 people a day think something bad about you! I bet even more think it of me. Who cares?! You know why you can’t please everyone? Because it’s unnatural and will never happen. SO GET OVER IT. Baby steps though, don’t get me wrong, quitting cold turkey may not be your style, and that’s okay. Referencing back to what I said before, make a small goal. IE: don’t set your expectations too high initially. Walk in, hop on the treadmill. Just walk it out for 30 minutes on slow while you watch my youtube videos. (see what I did there? 😛). Accomplish that routine you set for yourself. Buy yourself a new fitness item as a reward! Or just simply just soak in the fact that you DID it. Now, time to set a new goal! Not sure how to use ANY of the equipment? THAT’S WHAT YOUTUBE IS FOR!! C’mon. You got this! Shoot, half the stuff in the gym I still don’t know how to use. Side eye other people and see how to do things, I still do this! Ask someone! People in the gym LOVE to show people how to do things and share their knowledge. SET SMALL GOALS. YOU GOT THIS, GO GLEN COCO!

Fitness/Diet Apps (not sponsored, promise)

Cronometer – track everything you eat! Track your exercise! Track your water intake. ALL VERY important! You can scan barcodes and enter them into the app! It helps you keep track of your vitamin intake too! It’s way better than My Fitness Pal, trust.
Emily Skye Fit – She has a free work out posted on there every single day! Coolest part?! There is a video for every single exercise so you know exactly what to do! I paid for the plan version, which I love. It’s a little harder and there’s more content. Choose what works for you!

What are YOUR goals? Short term & long term? Let me know in a comment! I love reading your guys’ comments!

Really enjoyed reading this!! Have a wonderful year, love.

  2. January 2, 2018 / 2:15 PM

I love this!! Most years, I avoid making a resolution because I’m too afraid of the failure (the perfectionist part of me – can’t fail if you never try). But this year I actually physically wrote down the things I want to change about myself to help me stick to it. I want to get back to the weight I was a year ago, before I had a shitty job and stress-ate my way to gaining about 15 pounds (which I got out of after 11 months, hallelujah). I want to read at least 4 books this year so I can reclaim my identity of being a “reader” – I haven’t read since I graduated college 6 years ago (my program required a LOT of reading and I got burnt out) and I need to be intentional about making steps to change it. To others those may seem pretty meaningless, but to me they’re small things I can control and that will help shape the other higher goals I want to achieve as well.

And…this is something I’m thinking of building myself, a business in editing and proofing. I already do it on a small scale with the college I work for (a side job from what I actually do there), and after reading this post I’m wondering if you have any interest in hiring me? Not because your editing is bad or anything!! But the concept is that a writer can put together all their content and get pen to paper (or fingers to keyboard), and I can come through and clean it all up! It’s taken a lot of guts to ask people like you, so I consider it an accomplishment in just putting it out there but I completely understand if that’s not something you want to pursue. Good luck in all your business ventures this year!! xoxoxoxo

Love the blogs, for real !! They inspire me to feel better. Sounds weird right ? You think like I do a lot , and when I read your words it’s like me talking to me !! Ha ha goal short term (lupus causes me to sometimes, well, be stuck) is to move more , force myself to work out when I’m sick—.PUSH MYSELF—hormonal weight gain is the worst..Love what you do. Keep it coming. I’ll keep watching and supporting xoxo #foxfam4lyfe

Thank you for always keeping it real. I always know when I read or watch something that you post that I’m going to laugh and probably learn something new. You’re humble and beautiful and you inspire me everyday to try new things and to not be afraid to take risks. Keep doing you because you are beautiful!

I’m running a marathon in June, so I’ve set running goals up until that point. Signing up for races with cool gear is mostly my motivation. Also, if you’re looking for an awesome free workout app Nike Training is AMAZING – there are like 80+ workouts, you can filter by muscle group, length of time, if you have equipment or not, and workout type. You can also set a workout plan and it’ll remind you when the day comes up to do that exercise. Plus it’s completelt free, no paid version.

All hail momma fox! Only you would get me emotional on a blog post but push me to say my goals for the year.

    1. To believe in myself through my disease that I’m strong enough to do this even on my worst.
    2. To continue to love my animals as much as I do the world.
    3. To not hate anyone or anything, there’s way too much hate in the world and it’s just a terrible thing.
    4. Love myself
    5. Continue to not only LOVE and SUPPORT YOU & RYAN/ furbabies, but all the other great influencers out there who support good causes and are great people!

I’ve said it many times before and here’s to the 1st in 2018 THANK YOU!!! and all the love from this neck tatted gal and her glitter, and dory to You, Ryan, Leo, Frankie, Brixton, and Trixie 🦄🦄🦄🦄😘.

This was such an enjoyable read. I really believe in not setting resolutions either I would rather set the small goals and celebrate as I accomplish them and then that keeps me motivated for the year. My goals are following through with my Nike Fitness App 6-week workout, follow the keto diet for a month and see how I feel, film more youtube videos and stick to my schedule, and visit my family more since I am only an hour away. I look forward to more of your blog posts AND if you go to Japan I will be beyond excited for you that is a goal of mine within the next 5-7 years. Happy New Year!

Love this! I’m with you I like to list off some goals for myself (a few reasonable and maybe a couple that are pushing it) but I dont do resolutions. Thanks for all your posts!!!!
My personal list: 1. Save $ (No extra trips. Save for that big one you want and plan out a few small ones) 2. School- I just went back after being out for 7 years (One day at a time and Accountability) 3. Work! Work! Work!- I have 1 fulltime ER vet tech job, a PT bar job, and a few side gigs thru the summer (Keep it up but remember time for yourself!) 4. Screw fitness goals! (Focus on happy, eating clean and go outside!)

I love reading your blogs they are always so honest and to the point!
I struggle hard with self confidence and it intensified at the gym. So one goal for the year is to work on that. I need to lose around 25kgs so I need to get over it.
Can’t wait to see what you get up to next and I hope all your goals are achieved!

I’ve been following you for awhile, but somehow have missed this blog! That won’t happen anymore! Thank you for the advise on setting small goals throughout the year, makes it less overwhelming! I aim to make a lifestyle change of eating clean and setting a fitness routine. Those are my bigger year long goals.

I love this Kristen & love how true you are. Even if being true gets people’s panties in a wad you don’t sugar coat things. I love that! I am kinda like you, I don’t believe in setting one resolution & by the end of the year be over it and feel like i failed myself. I set daily, monthly, three month, 9 month and one year goals. This year I’m starting to bullet journal, I’m super excited! I chose to words to focus on this year self care & dedication. I wanna focus on self care bc i always feel guilty taking time for myself, i feel like i should spend every moment with my children, I wanna not feel bad for buying myself something I want. For dedication: i am in recovery, i was addictted to drugs for 13 years I will be clean 18 months on the 5th of January, everyday i give dedication to my recovery, i know that it has to come first so that i can be on top of everything negative or positive that comes my way. I wanna dedicate myself to achieving things i have lost in the past. I would also love to start working out, i don’t plan on jumping in and trying to be extreme at it i wanna take baby steps as you said! Thank you for being you! I enjoy watching everything you post! Love from Oklahoma! Also, tell us more about the new hair line! ♥️

I love this post! You are already such an inspiration to me. My goals are to get my self into the best shape as I will be 39 in April and I want to head into 40 at my absolute best (mentally and physically). I WILL STOP comparing myself to all of these Instagram fitness models, their best is not my best. I want to start mediating this year. I want to go on more dates with my boyfriend and less sitting on our asses doing nothing. and finally I need to curb my spending a little bit, buy less and save more 🙁
I love you and Ryan, thank you for being the amazing people you are! I am really enjoying your blog.

I had no plans either. Brought in the new year with my husband and my furbabies. Kiddos were at their others! My goals this year are to be more present in my day to day activities I believe that will make me eat healthier and work out more. I focus a lot on my son and my husband so I need to be more present with myself. Give myself more attention. Oh and force my husband to work out with me, I find it easier when you have a work out partner.

In May my family and I will be camping in Yosemite for a week! I am super pumped for the trip yet have a lot to do before I can handle the activity. This post has motivated me enough to get my lazy butt thinking about small goals to set whether it be cardio or weights. Thank you Kristen!!

You are such an inspiration. I’ve been really on it with my fitness and health goals but you have pushed me to stop slacking off. I also don’t believe in New Years Resolutions but in setting reasonable goals that I can accomplish. Thank you so much!!!

  25. January 3, 2018 / 3:38 PM

Ahhhh well first of all — One of your small goals is to Make More Time for Friends —- well—- HIIIII see yaaa on Saturday! So stoked to finally meet you! Oh– and I WILL absolutely be one of the first 50, Duhhhhhhh gotta get me my girls Pallet! (>>but if I am not one of the first few I will buy it in support!)

Loved this blog post! I could not agree more with how unrealistic New Years Resolutions are. In fact, I hate the idea of it and hate the fact that everyone asks what yours are. Setting smaller goals is totally the way to go!

I’m going to a Vision Board making party on Sunday and am fired up to add all the little goals I have for myself on there. Here are some of mine:

    1) Finally commit to my first tattoo – which will be the moon phases going down the outside of my arm
    2) I will save 20,000 dollars this year (I broke it down and that’s $835 every paycheck)
    3) I will learn how to do some basic DJing so I can play a set for my camp this year at Burning Man
    4) I will get my booty in the BEST Brazilian booty shape it’s ever been in
    5) I will take on a few freelance projects working on brands that I really can align with

    🙂 Mizz Becky
PS Can we be best friends?!

I really enjoyed reading this, especially about the fitness part… Just before we rang in the new year I decided to start going to the gym instead of complaining about my back hurting all the time. I only go on the treadmill for 25 minutes a day and that small stuff I think is a good start. And getting new workout clothes was definitely a pick me up… Forever21 was smart enough to have a sale going right before new year’s!! Also, the app Fabulous has been helpful for me to set goals; it explains the psychology behind what works and why.

It was nice to read that you don’t believe in resolutions because neither do I. Small goals make big goals possible . My biggest goal for the year is to finish up my undergrad degree. I’ll be graduating in December with my degree in social work! I enjoyed reading your post as always !!!
